To request a brochure and application and fill out your personal information on line click request a brochure and application . Who should apply? Motivated students with a curiosity about the ocean and conservation are encouraged to apply. Acceptance criteria include personal essays, academic records, a teacher recommendation, a personal recommendation, and, most importantly, a clear indication of the student’s enthusiasm and curiosity to explore a new world and discover new ways of learning. Students come from a variety of schools – public and private, boarding and day, from throughout North America and The Bahamas. Ninth or tenth-grade students may submit an application for either semester of the following year. How do I apply? Students should complete the required background information on the application form, making sure to get the signature of a parent or guardian, or in the case of a boarding student, your advisor. Submit well thought out responses to the essays, which should be written on separate sheets of paper. Ask a teacher and another adult who knows you well to write recommendations for you. These recommendations should be sealed and returned with your application, or the recommenders can submit their comments directly to us. Finally, request a transcript from your school and include that with the other materials. There is a $60 application fee. Calendar, deadlines, and tuition costs: For calendar information and application deadlines please follow this link. Tuition for the 2009-2010 academic year is $19,200 per semester. Additional expenses including travel to and from Eleuthera, books, school clothing and incidentals range from $1,000 - $1,500. The Island School is a need-blind institution. As financial aid decisions are made after admission decisions, financial aid does not play any role in admission to The Island School. Families who have requested financial aid are sent the appropriate materials with their acceptance letter. Click here for additional information. The Island School is committed to enrolling students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, therefore we have established a program of financial aid based on direct grants that do not have to be repaid. However, part of our philosophy is that all families receiving financial aid will contribute, in some amount, to the tuition.
