Summer Enrollment

Dear Island School Summer Term Students and Parents,

We hope you are looking forward to the exciting experiences ahead on Eleuthera. Below is a list of the information and documents you will need to read and fill out. Please open these documents and read each one carefully. Forms that must be filled out should be printed, signed, scanned and returned via email to summer@islandschool.org. If you would rather mail these forms to us you may send to The Island School PO box 6008 Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.We have tried to explain each item clearly, but, as always, please feel free to call us with any questions. We ask that you please return all completed forms at the same time no later than June 1, 2013. You may wish to make copies of all the return materials for your personal records or in the event that something gets lost. We are very excited that you will be joining us at The Island School Summer Term 2013!

THE STUDENT HANDBOOK – Parents and students are expected to thoroughly read the Student Handbook that can be found below. Your participation in Summer Term 2013 is implied consent that both parents and students have carefully read the Handbook.

ISLAND SCHOOL MEDICAL HISTORY, RELEASE AND LIABILITY FORMS – Please fill out as completely as possible to help us ensure proper medical treatment during Summer Term. To complete this form you will need DAN insurance (see included medical form for more information).

ISLAND SCHOOL UNIFORM CLOTHING - Students should purchase Island School uniforms before leaving for Eleuthera. We recommend that students have at least two Island School t-shirts and one polo shirt. These can be purchased from our on line store coming soon. We will send more information when it becomes available. Island School bathing suits (board shorts for boys and conservative speedo type bathing suits for girls) can be purchased at the School Store when you arrive.

PRE-SEMESTER ACADEMICS - If you are not already certified to SCUBA dive, you will be receiving an email with more information on how to complete the academic portion of your SCUBA training online. Should you have questions regarding the academic portion of your SCUBA training, please email Ron Knight at ronknight@islandschool.org. It is imperative that you finish ALL portions of your online training before arrival on June 28th, ensuring that you print out and email verification of completion.

SUMMER TERM TRAVEL INFORMATION – All students should meet us at Rock Sound Airport, Eleuthera, Bahamas (airport code RSD) on June 28. Students who fly into other airports on Eleuthera will have to pay taxi fares between $150-$300. Please do not fly to the other airports. Once in Rock Sound, the school will provide transportation to and from the campus. Please see the “Traveling to Eleuthera” sheet before booking your flights.

PARENTS’ AND FAMILY WEEK – Summer Term Parents’ and Family week will begin on Thursday, July 25th in the afternoon and end on the night of Saturday, July 27th with student graduation. While a more detailed itinerary will be provided upon parents’ arrival at The Island School, Saturday, July 27th will be a day for parents to spend exploring South Eleuthera while summer term students enjoy a last day together celebrating their work as a community. Saturday evening, summer term parents have the unique opportunity to attend the Island School graduation ceremony. Very early Sunday morning students will depart from The Island School to head to the airport. Housing reservations can be made at the Cape Eleuthera Resort – see the informational page on Parents’ and Family Week for more information.

We will continue to be in contact with you by email—please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Best regards,
The Island School Summer Term
