We believe that the best people to tell you about our program are those who have lived it for themselves! As ambassadors, the students below represent the core of The Island School’s ideals; leadership, curiosity, sustainability and community. They are excited about the prospect of talking with you about their experience applying to The Island School, attending, and coming home. We truly believe that the success of our program is represented through our passionate alumni.

Below are a few of our 2016 - 2017 students, with information about who they are, where they come from, and what they have to say about their summer at The Island School. We hope you see a student on this list that reminds you of yourself. If you would like to speak with an ambassador, please submit the form at the bottom of this page with your name, contact information, and who you would like to speak with. "I attended the Island School because I wanted a challenge. I wanted to give myself something to work towards and accomplish it. I went in knowing my weaknesses and the struggles that I as going to face if I ending up going to the Island School. My goal was to tackle these obstacles that I had put up for myself and immerse myself in something that was so close to my heart. The connections I made and the relationships that I formed over the course of four weeks are things that I am forever grateful for. I was able to build and be a part of a loving family in a short amount of time and I know that our love will last long after our summer."

"To the people who are considering applying to this wonderful place, I urge you to consider if you are ready for a challenge. If you can embrace being challenged in the various ways the Island School provides, you will emerge with a new sense of accomplishment. I attended the Island School in hopes of doing something different. I needed a new challenge in my life, and I was eager to explore the world around me. The Island School gave me the opportunity to fulfill all these dreams of mine in only a month. It was a personal journey which left me to be a stronger and better person, and simultaneously opened my eyes to endless possibilities for the future. The friendships I made here will last a lifetime and remind me of who I want to be."

"At The Island School, every day provides multiple opportunities to do something both challenging and rewarding. This not only makes The Island School unique, but was the thing I looked forward to every morning. I loved the fact that I woke up to an astonishingly supportive community and spent the entire day being encouraged by them, and encouraging others, to fully engage in the experiential learning that The Island School has to offer. My favorite thing overall is that it's impossible to walk away from The Island School unchanged- in a good way"

"My favorite part of The Island School was without a doubt the people and the relationships formed at the Island School. There is so much to love about the Island School, but nothing compares to the incredibly close bonds that form between fellow students and students and faculty. It still amazes me how close you can become with a group of strangers in only 30 days. The people I met are some of my closest friends and I genuinely know many of them better than my life long friends from all over, including Texas, Michigan, and Missouri. This bond is not limited to students, and I know that I will also be seeing many of the Island School faculty again in the near future. I know it’ll sound unbelievably cliche, but the Island School is truly a family."

"Attending the Island School was the best risk I’ve taken. I learned more about my surroundings and myself there than I have anywhere else. The Island School is a great place to push your limits and discover new interests. I attended the Island School because I wanted a new perspective from people around the nation and the globe that I am not exposed to in my neighborhood. I was also interested in learning about the environment and the role I play in it. I attended the Island School because I wanted a new perspective from people around the nation and the globe that I am not exposed to in my neighborhood. "I attended the Island School because I wanted an adventure; I wanted to try new things, meet new people, and get hands-on experience with marine science, sustainability, and anthropology. I was intrigued by the variety and intensity of opportunities at The Island School and I wanted to experience an involved and interdisciplinary approach to education. I attended the Island School because I wanted an adventure; I wanted to try new things, meet new people, and get hands-on experience with marine science, sustainability, and anthropology.
