The closest airport to The Island School is Rock Sound International Airport (RSD). Governor’s Harbour Airport (GHB) is another airport about one and a half hours north of the Cape. You can connect to RSD through Nassau or Fort Lauderdale and GHB through Nassau, Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Part of the beauty of our location lies in its inaccessability and difficulty in coordinating travel--flights may be difficult to come by, so we can not stress enough the importance of planning your travel well in advance of the actual departure. Here are some travel suggestions for each departure point to Eleuthera:
Nassau to Eleuthera
Many commercial airlines fly directly to Nassau so please check availability from your area. If you are coming from NYC or Boston, JetBlue now offers great deals directly to Nassau. Once in Nassau you can use BahamasAir (flies to all Eleuthera airports) or Southern Air (flies to GHB or ELH). If you have more than five people in your group, you may want to consider chartering. These are some of the companies with which we are familiar but there are several options listed at The Bahamas Tourism Website.
Fort Lauderdale to Eleuthera
- US Airways and Continental fly to GHB from Fort Lauderdale.
sets up special flights for student travel and Parents’ Weekend.
When contacting Twin Air, mention that you are an Island School
parent. Please call approximately 60 days in advance of your travel
dates. Twin Air (954) 359.8993; nicoleflytwinair@hotmail.com.
In general, Twin Air directs travelers to arrive at their departure
gate before noon during these special travel times.
Miami to Eleuthera
US Airways and Continental fly to GHB from Miami. There are no flights from Miami to RSD.
Student Travel: Students should plan to travel on the first and last days of the semester program. Students traveling through Ft. Lauderdale on Twin Air will be met by an Island School representative in the main terminal. On the Eleuthera side. all students will be met at Rock Sound Airport. In the event that students can only fly to Governor's Harbour, students will need to take a taxi, normally $60, to Rock Sound, where we will be waiting to pick you up. Once in Rock Sound, the School will provide transportation to and from the campus.
