In the third week of school the scheduling went awry once again. On September 28th the Groupers and Snappers divided to work on their own focus for the next three days. The Groupers remained on campus with the more normal of the two schedules. At 6:30 morning exercise proceeded as normal involving running, as well as several games of soccer, football and ultimate Frisbee. The first round of academic tests was completed with no catastrophes. Classes began as usual at nine o'clock but ended at lunch, after which the Groupers began the intensive dive training to work on their open-water certification. The first part of the afternoon was the diving academics while the later part of the day was focused on the confined water around the marina. Today the confined water work was finished leaving only the test and four open water dives before completing basic open water certification.

Paddling for several hours a day they managed to make the venture to Rock Sound and back in three days, about a twenty-five mile journey. Each day was started with a dance ritual and Omeros readings. During the expedition they learned many things from Eskimo rolls to navigation skills. In the evenings they set camp, cooked dinners including spaghetti, Quesadillas, and rice and beans. The last day was difficult due to strong winds, while the kayakers could see the seemingly unobtainable campus for three hours. They arrived safely around four in the afternoon, after which they unloaded gear and debriefed. The many hours in the sun provided many people with a "good" tan; the Groupers are taking the advice to take a lot of sun block along.

When the Groupers return on Wednesday the schedule will return to normal. Next Friday the entire group will go on a fieldtrip to visit an archeological site of the Lucayans on Palm Island about a mile and a half from the campus.

Tomorrow, the usual Sunday activities will continue including the opportunity to go to the local churches of south Eleuthera. The Groupers will be working hard to complete an English paper and a math project, while they prepare extensively for Monday morning's departure.

This week's installment was provided by Paul "The Lepoard" Lenehan, Sheena "Warrior Princes" Cline, Berret "the Bruiser" Summerlin, and "Fearless" Francesca Forestall.
