L ife at The Island School this week . . .
Life this week was far from normal. Not that living and going to school in the Bahamas is completely normal. This week has been chaotic yet exhilarating. Beginning on Saturday, after morning classes, the Island School crew went to Half Sound beach to soak up some rays and take a drive through the jungle. The trip to the beach was almost as fun as the actual beach. The road to the beach was not quite as large as the vehicles. Needless to say the cars were slightly scratched and gouged when we came back. Once we finally reached the beach we were able to forget the stress of academics and relax and enjoy the true Bahamian waves and sun!
On the following day, the first Kayak trip left. We woke early Sunday morning and headed out to the unknown. The first day, we made it to Robinson's Creak by mid-day, and snorkeled in the mangroves. That night we talked under the stars and saw some of what the Island School experience is.
On Monday we continued our adventure and went to Plumb Creek, which was a beautiful horseshoe-shaped white sand beach. The final day we paddled all the way home, and felt proud and much tanner. While the Kayak trip was off, the other students were in intense SCUBA classes and academic classes. The SCUBA group worked towards getting certified. And the academic group furthered their knowledge focusing on history of the Bahamas. In retrospect it was an amazing and challenging week. Signing off for now, Catherine Brayton P.S. We are having an amazing time and miss you all very much! |
