The students at The Island School are just coming off one of the busiest weeks yet. It started as the parents arrived for their weekend visit at the end of April and culminated in the presentations of their semester long research projects to local dignitaries and scientists from around the world. The community outreach program also finished up in the form of a science fair held at the campus that showcased the projects of the seventh graders from the local primary school.

All of the students were excited to share their Island School experiences with their parents when they visited. Parents were involved in everything from jumping off High Rock during morning exercise, to washing the dishes (the kids loved that) to viewing the science presentation dress rehearsals. The last day and a half of the weekend the kids got to have some one-on-one time exploring the island with their parents, but by Monday it was business as usual.

The days immediately following Parent's Weekend were spent fine-tuning the research project presentations that would be held on Friday, May 5th. By the time local officials from the department of fisheries, the Ministry of Commerce and other scientists from the States and other parts of the world arrived, the students were ready to share the findings that they had gathered for the past three months. On Saturday the school switched gears to host the science projects of the local seventh graders that had been visiting for community outreach all semester. The kids got the chance to present what they learned about the local marine environment and conservation methods from their Island School student/teachers.

Thanks for checking in. Our last installment will be coming soon so stay tuned.
