Another week has passed and Luke's Advisor group, with all-star advisees - Alex, Ari, Charlotte, and Cynthia, are coming at you with this weekly (and, sadly, final) web update. The usually crazy Island School schedule has, well, gotten crazier now that the semester is coming to a close. On Thanksgiving, yes, we did have classes, but later in the day, some people helped make our enormous feast while others enjoyed a traditional game of football on Bull Dolphin Field. That night, after the dining hall was decorated and the pies left baking in the oven, everyone met at dinner circle for a round of thanks and a moment of silence to think about those less fortunate than us. Soon after our peaceful moments of reflection was a mad dash for the dinning hall where everyone enjoyed an amazing meal of mashed potatoes, turkey, pork, candied yams, green beans, stuffing, and what seemed like every other possible food. Dessert, of course, was best, a lovely selection of pies, cakes, and ice cream. By the end of the meal everyone was stuffed and preceded back to their beds for a long nap that lasted through the night. It was the ultimate food-coma!
After 2 days without morning exercise it was time to get back into the swing of things. Sunday was the culminating event of morning exercise - THE DEEP CREEK HALF MARATHON. The 6.1-mile run out to Deep Creek and back was grueling, but everyone finished under 3 hours. There was no time to deal with soreness and blisters, because just 2 days later we were in the water for a final match of water polo. There are only 7 days left in the Fall 2001 semester and mixed emotions are floating around campus. Yesterday was the last day of classes and today the last day of Community Outreach. This weekend we look forward to Science Presentations, the Science Fair, and then breaking out the new Reef Ball.
