Last Saturday our entire group was reunited (at last!) with the return of Kayak 4 and Down Island 4. We greeted the trips with shrieks of joy and hugs. Everyone is extremely happy to be back and we all seem to be much closer with only two and a half weeks remaining in our semester, a fact none of us can believe! Sunday we were all pleased to have the day off with no work to worry about and thus spent time relaxing or catching up on some much needed sleep. On Monday, our academic rotation began again. Since then, we have been working extremely hard to clean up the campus for the arrival of our parents on Thursday and preparing for our research presentations. We are also getting excited and ready for the half marathon that is NEXT WEEK!
Ross led the school in a run-swim for morning exercise this week and here is his report: "I was so happy when I was given the opportunity of leading a run swim. For me this was a big challenge because I never really liked the run swims. One day I was thinking to myself that I only have a few days left until I leave the Island School. So, within myself, I stepped up and accepted this challenge. The morning that I was to lead the exercise, I got cold feet and I began to question myself about why I had volunteered for this, but, in the end I was motivated by the dwindling number of days left in our program. In the end, the morning exercise went great and I felt better about myself and the run swims. I really learned how to accept challenges and have realized that if something does not seem to be what you want it to be, then you should try it from another perspective."
Tuesday we set up the environmental art gallery in the lecture hall. There was an ongoing slideshow, reconstructed artworks, photos, and performances. Thursday we woke up early to do our second eight-mile run. It was a long run but most people found it to be easier this time than the first time. Kids from the Deep Creek Middle School came to see the gallery throughout the day. All in all, the art show was a success.
This week was filled with anticipation for one reason. Everyone has been long awaiting the arrival of our parents. People have been bursting with the excitement while waiting for their parent's arrival. The big event comes Thursday evening. We've cleaned the campus and everything looks polished. We'll have a full report on parent's weekend next week.
