Morning exercise assessment

10/22/02, Victoria- The research paper is finally done! We all wrote a 5-page research paper based upon the Loyalist Era. It was very challenging but we all made it through. Despite the computer crunch we were able to hand in our papers on Tuesday night by 6, at dinner circle. The research paper was hard but we helped each other with the research and as a community got through the process. Tuesday night was a great night for everyone to chill out and prepare for Wednesday - SCUBA day!

Hey Mom, Dad, Louisa, and Greg! I love it here! Hey TaylorJ *

10/23/02, Jessica Baylor - Most Saturday nights, students get to plan their evening activity. Last Saturday night, Jessica Baylor, Emily Brown, Sara Rodell, and Caitlin Hoffman from North Dorm decided to plan the activity. The students were in the middle of a grueling academic week and a break was definitely in store for them. They decided to have a formal sit down dinner and a dance afterward. Invitations were sent out the Friday before to get all the students hyped up for the big event. The theme was Island Paradise with an Italian twist.

The girls spent all Saturday cooking with Mooch, one of our amazing chefs to prepare and decorate the Dining Hall Deck. The meal included lasagna, pizza, Caesar salad and bruchetta all made by the students. The Deck was dimly lit with candles while soft music played in the background. Streamers and "Island Paradise" decorations along with Christmas lights were strung everywhere. For dessert, a yellow cake with Sara's homemade sweet cream icing was put on the cake with the help of Horatio. Everyone arrived on time in their best dress, as the dress code was formal, and cameras were ready to capture the moment. After the dishes and tables were cleared, speakers were set up for a dance. It was a success and a great end to a fun night.

From Jess Baylor - Much love to Mom, Dad, Leia, Isabel, Grandma and Toby. Hey to Eileen, Jen, Laura, Kaila and Joanna and James. And all my friends @ Nobles- Miss You

Charlie, Dane and Alex commence living roof installation

10/24/02, Skyler- On Wednesday the 23rd we went on our fifth open water scuba dive. Those of us who missed previous dives went on an extra dive to Bamboo Point in the morning. Cruising around at forty feet below the surface we saw tons of cool fish, most of which we could identify from our weekly organism slide quizzes. Almost everyone is certified now, just a few still have a dive or two until we are officially trained open water divers. Breathing underwater is definitely the coolest thing ever! Exercise is challenging, especially when Chris Maxey takes us on his crazy adventures across the local terrain, he likes to call "psychos". Everyone is getting ready to take off on our 8-day kayak trip and I can't wait for the 2-day solo!

To everyone at home, mom, dad, Natty, Zac - I love you and I miss you. I'm in good hands and having the time of my life. To everyone else - I'll see you in 48 days!

10/23/02 Everton- On Tuesday the 22nd, in training for the half marathon we stepped up morning exercise a notch. Instead of the usual 4 miles or the 5 miler we did last week, we did a six and a half mile run. Personally it was the longest run I have ever done in my life, but I did it and felt good. Motivated by the news that we all did really well on the physical assessment, every one cruised through the run and came in strong afterwards. I have never ran as much in my life as I do at The Island school, but I am getting better and stronger. In my mind the half marathon is definitely doable and I am sure the other students share my view. Everyone is psyched for the eight days. Paddling is one of the greatest activities at The Island school and eight days of is going to be out of this world. The incredible wild life we will see on the way and sleeping under the open sky will be a memorable experience.

From Everton: To- mom , " L.T." and all my friends - I love tour and can't wait to see you guys.
