This week started out our kayak trip/SCUBA/academic rotations. Most of us have now realized that we are actually here, and time is flying. We picked our research projects and are going to start field work on them this week.

Kayak 1 left Monday morning amid clear, hot, sunny skies. SCUBA class took their DAN certification test on Tuesday, learning how to administer oxygen, and practiced water rescue diving on Wednesday. Wednesday morning, the academic group went free diving out at tunnel rock. They saw lots of the reef fish they had learned during the marvelous Marine Bio Slides presentations with Helena the night before. The students were intrigued with not only the beautiful pictures of sea creatures, but with the habits that Helena always throws in to make it more interesting.

Kayak 1 will return on Wednesday (today), and Kayak 2 will set out tomorrow. The academic group will help local sixth graders with making books about marine ecology this afternoon at Rock Sound and Tarpon Bay middle schools. All of the mail that we are receiving is greatly appreciated so keep on sending it! Hope you all are doing well, and everyone here says HI to all of their families.

This week we had an unfortunate event. One of our fellow students had a medical problem during morning exercise on Monday. She was taken to Nassau for a check-up and now is back at school and doing well. We were all very excited for her to come back.

Water is a very big issue here at the Island School. Right now we are very low on water and are having to be very conservative on how many showers we take. That can get to be a very "smelly" situation.
