In the past week, things have begun to get very busy. A week ago was our first scuba dive. We went to tunnel rock and practiced basic skills such as removing our mask and dropping our regulator. We were able to swim about and observe the various fish, which we recognized from our Marine Bio slides. At this point in the semester each science research group has developed a goal and direction. Last Friday, each research group presented a brief description of their plans for the semester. The groups include Mangroves (which are the best), Artificial Reefs (which are the second best), Coastal Management, Permaculture, and Marine No Take Reserves. The weekend's activities included a toga party on Saturday night, which included eating contests, charades and pounds of candy.
Today we had our second scuba adventure, which was our first open descent. It was windy today and much colder but we still saw many fish and types of coral. We were able to swim through a tunnel of coral, which was cool. This afternoon was our second meeting with Bahamian primary schoolers as part of community outreach. Tonight was a coffee house where many people contributed poems, stories, songs and music.
