Amy and Mickey in Preacher's Cave

After leaving the school a week and a half ago our experience of the island has changed dramatically. Kayak trips thus far have all been amazing with beautiful weather fun times and lots of laughs. Starting at the schooners with an incredible view of merging tides overlooking an extensive sandbar, we all frolicked in the Oolitic sand, shuffling back to camp to eat around a campfire. The next few days water was clear as glass so the groups took advantage of the calm seas to cover over 22 nautical miles.

The much anticipated solos were spent varyingly from pages of journal writing to sand sculpting, tanning to ghost crab scuddling. Everyone was very creative in rationing the food given to us for the entire 48 hours. Overall, the trip was great fun, as was our group!

Academic classes have been great as well with smaller class sizes and creative assignments. The workload is heavy, but everyone continues to have a great time. With the frequent coming and going of varying groups the Island School community is small. While it has its advantages, everyone seems eager to come together again and finish the rest of the semester.
