Kelsey finishes a run at morning exercise

Hi everybody!   We are all busy getting ready for the arrival of a lot of parents!!   We can’t wait!    We are still recovering from our last week of academic and kayak rotations.   At the end of the academic week, we had an awesome surprise dinner at Chris Maxey’s house.   After the big event, a group of us went on a night dive out at Tunnel Rock, a large coral head.   When we went down to the coral, we saw lots of colorful and shy sea creatures.   One group saw a small shark, but most everyone saw the lobsters and parrotfish that hid among the small crevasses.

The last few days have also been full of dress rehearsals for Junkanoo. We had our final dance sessions on Sunday and Dennis had us all rocking out.   We are finally starting the get the dance moves down!   Costume prep has moved into high gear.   The Dining Hall is the staging area for headdresses and skirts with lots of crepe paper, glue and glitter.

Down Island Trip does yoga
on the beach

On the first day on Down Island trip #4 this last week, we headed up to one of the most northern points on the Island, Preacher’s Cave, and after camping on the beach there, we spent the next two days slowly making our way back south. Our group had a really awesome time!

We had ice cream on the trip, which was a serious treat, and one of our leaders, Danny, introduced us to some awesome bakeries. One of our bakery stops included fresh-out-of-the-oven bread made by a person who used to work for Princess Diana!   It was honestly the best bread we have ever had in our lives, too good even to ruin with peanut butter and jelly or butter!    We also visited three caves on Eleuthera, including an almost mile long underground cave with one chamber that had cold water we had to swim across!   Overall the last week was a really great time.   Camping on the beach and cooking under the stars is an awesome experience and really brought our group together.

Getting the Junkanoo moves down

Academics have also been in full swing.   We have been working really hard on our research now that the second half the semester is in full swing and it is time to develop conclusions.   Our science paper results were due on Tuesday, meaning another night of hard work trying to piece together the ideas of the whole group.   We are also working really hard on the presentations our parents will see on Parents Weekend.   We think that they are going to be good, but are still working really hard to impress you all! We’ll see you on Thursday!
