Monday was our first day back from kayak rotations and we were all glad to be back together. Tuesday and Wednesday were spent getting ready for our parents! There was research to be done, and art gallery to prepare, and a campus to clean. In the midst of preparing our research presentations, we divided and conquered—some cleaned up trash, some straightened the conch paths, and everyone helped to make the gallery look great, complete with a keystone arch as a centerpiece.
Wednesday night we practiced our research presentations for our peers, and made last minute revisions. Thursday no one could concentrate through classes, we were all excited to see our families. They all arrived at five and we had a delicious dinner with them. By eight they were gone, and we were back to research. That night, we had to make some adjustments in the dorm for 25 plus siblings that stayed with us—but it was worth it, we had a great time with them. Friday morning we had a short run/swim track with some daring siblings, then, when the parents came, half went to classes with their son or daughter while the other half watched research presentations, then we switched. They all went very well and we were all relieved.
Friday night we performed Junkanoo—it was a blast and a great way to let off steam. We ran to high rock and jumped off Saturday morning with our families, and are pleased to report that everyone made the four miles without fainting. We spent the rest of the day meeting with teachers and advisors and hanging out around campus with our families. Saturday night was the second coffee house of the year, Swan Lake gave an encore performance and tons of parents and siblings participated. They were all very talented and entertaining.
Sunday was a free day—some people went down island, even all the way to Harbour Island, and others hung around the Cape. It was a tiring but relaxing day filled with junk food and good times. Then, sadly, we had to say goodnight and goodbye to our parents and siblings. All in all it was a great weekend and we’re so happy all of you at home could come.
