Morning water polo

On Wednesday afternoon we all dispersed to join our different grades at Community Outreach. We were all working and playing with the 3rd ,4th, 5th , 6th , a nd 8th graders of Deep Creek. Some of us are working on making a book of stories, teaching our partners how to type, writing poetry, and tutoring in science. We are all getting to know our buddies well, and it’s so much fun to hang with them! On Thursday we woke up and ran the 4-mile loop. Although it seemed like a torturous task, we all made it!

Friday was kicked off by a morning exercise switched up from last Friday: half of us played an awesome game of water polo with Farrell and Schatz, while last week’s water polo players did some wonderful yoga with Karen and Lauren.

Saturday we split up into our run/swim tracks. The run team ran 5.5 miles, and the swim team swam from the small bridge back to campus (against the current!). Saturday night was full of well-deserved fun. We all piled into two vans and the elf (our big blue truck with an open back) and drove to high rock. This, in itself, was exciting because it was the first time we had driven there and not run on our two feet. With the headlights of a van shining off the cliff, Schatz spotted us as we took a long leap off the rocky cliff and into the water (with our dive lights and snorkel in hand). The surreal light show by the dive flash lights were entertaining to the people who didn’t jump in and simply sat on the bumpy rocks and watched the entertaining show of our flash lights shining through the water. It was such a thrill jumping through the air and being able to see the underwater life at night. When we arrived back home we all enjoyed our one-night-a-week delicious snack…brownies and ice cream! They were so good. We then played an entertaining game of ‘The Price is Right’, and a little bit of charades.

On Sunday, as the rain was pouring outside, we all slept in (some of us until 11:30!). Some of us worked on the massive amounts of homework due during the next several days, and others played Ultimate Frisbee with the faculty in Deep Creek. We had a big game of King of the Dock off Girls Dorm Beach when the sun came out of hiding. Our first art projects were due on Tuesday afternoon, so some of us raced off to our q uerencias to take our photographs.

On Monday we work up at 6:15 to be at circle at 6:30. We split off into our tracks again, and the runners ran close to 6 miles – with spring intervals! The swim track swam a mile and then finished off with sprints around the triangle cut, what a workout! Everyone is improving their push up counts as well as their over all strength in morning exercise.

Monday’s classes started with a huge reasoning exam in science, and later on in the day we had a Community Outreach meeting to discuss what we’d be teaching our little cherubs on Wednesday. Tuesday morning was kicked off with a run-swim in the pouring rain! As the thunder boomed, we decided wisely not to spend too much time in the water. Which meant….more running!! It was very fun. On Tuesday night we had our Natural History class weekly quiz, followed by an amazing movie called Blue Earth. We learned about sharks and whales…what fun! Wednesday morning we slept in and when we woke up we split into our SCUBA rotation groups. This week was very hectic, but very fun!
