WEEK 11 Thursday 11/09
As academic 2 continued their intense studies they were filled with disappointment when SCUBA was cancelled due to bad weather. However everyone welcomed the extra time to study, and we were very happy to hear that the dive was rescheduled for Saturday. However, it was disappointing to hear that the awesome night dive that everyone had talked about was cancelled.
Friday 11/10
The day started out with a grueling 8 mile run that everyone had been greatly anticipating. While the runners did this the swimmers had a long swim that involved 2 laps around Triangle Cut and Water Polo Cut. The day continued with a rocking science quiz that got everyone pumped for academics to be over. Everyone was very happy to hear that we finally got to finish Omeros, too bad the teachers ruled out the ceremonial burning that we had planned. Even though we were all slightly sad to not be bonding with Hamner and Walcott students found comfort in the fact that they could walk into the girl's dorm and see posters of them everywhere. The day ended with a crazy dish crew because the Deep Creek Middle School celebrated their 5 year anniversary.
Saturday 11/11
The morning started out with an exciting sighting of the K4 kayakers by the SCUBA divers on the Cobia. This surprise was made even more exciting because the kayakers had decided to kayak BACK to school (an extra 30 or so km) as a surprise. After that interruption the divers continued with their science class where they surveyed coral reefs and surrounding algae. When the divers returned back on campus they were amazed by the sight of the kayakers SWIMMING into girls dorm cut with their kayaks tied to their ankles! After this the K3 down island trip returned and everyone was excited to have everyone back together on campus. The Saturday night committee really pulled through with a jump off of High Rock in the dark, followed by a movie and much welcomed coke floats and cake.
Sunday 11/12
A nice relaxing Sunday with everyone together on campus involved most people sitting around boys dorm doing nothing in particular. Some boys did venture out to do some seining with the bone fishing net. The night ended with a crazy night of volleyball a cookout on the beach, all supervised by the great and powerful Maxey.
Monday 11/13
The day started out with an intense run swim, not many people seemed to mind because they were too busy thinking about how awesome it was to be back together. After breakfast everyone went crazy over the Funk sale where Matt Ale’s Taft t-shirt was hidden in an attempt for an intense auction. Surprisingly there was an equal amount of everyone’s clothes in the funk box, very different from it being dominated by Matt Ale and Sam Miller. It was an exciting sale with Charlie doing 300 pushups for a mask! Everyone got back into the regular schedule with classes and what are considered ‘normal’ days at Island School. Everyone prepared or procrastinated their research presentations and got ready for the upcoming parents weekend.
Tuesday 11/14
The day started out as usual with a 6 mile run and a swim in the current cut. This was followed by a fun deep clean during free time that was much needed by both dorms. After dinner everyone rushed to finish their research papers and to complete work on time. During study time work was broken up by a fun bloomers where we completed a successful group sit. A nice way to end a stressful day.
