Week Six

The start of an amazing advisee dinner

The weekend of October 6th through 7th, Island School students were lucky enough to once again be able to get a taste of what the lives of Eleutherans are like. This is of course the home stay experience, one of the many unique and exciting events that can only be experienced through the Island School. This time as students introduced themselves into the Bahamian culture; there was an entire night to indulge in. While some went off to Youth Group at local churches, others relaxed and had dinner with their families. The following day, whether it was spent exploring or simply relaxing, students were able to put their stresses from school on hold and simply capture and experience the moment at hand.

SCUBA girls getting excited to dive from the Cobia

After that we had another week of classes, but a much enjoyed break in the middle to be involved in SCUBA and Junkanoo projects. While the previously certified Peppermint Gobies enjoyed a productive morning of Legacy Projects on Wednesday, the Purple Mouth Morays set out on their final open water certification dive.  The divers were down at Cathedral, an amazing reef, and had the opportunity to see tons of beautiful fish, including an enormous crab, which may have been bigger than Sydney, a student this semester.  Most of us have now completed our PADI Open Water SCUBA certification.

The final remaining students got their chance to catch up and are now fully qualified.  The Morays got to go on a second dive so that they could make up for the one they missed the previous week. At Tunnel Rock everyone was given the opportunity to explore on their own (without Ed or Mark).  By the way, Maxey can hold his breathe free-diving for four minutes! Overall, it was a very eventful week of scuba, and now that everyone is qualified we are looking forward to having more freedom and variety in the dives to come.

This week was also full of advisee dinners. Dinner with advisors was well enjoyed by all students. Some went to Sheryl's and enjoyed an enormous amount of Conch, while others went to their advisors homes and had a feast of their own. A mass amount of food was a great break from an otherwise work packed week. All students were talking about their advisee dinners for quite some time, and how much they enjoyed them.  This is just another week in paradise!
