Week Eleven

This week our community became whole again as K3 and K4 returned to the campus from their down island and kayak trips. It was very exciting to see everyone together after a long eight day rotation. Although K1 and K2 had lots of fun on their academic stretch exploring the cape, finishing their OMEROS readings, and learning about sextants, it was nice for all of the campus to be together. During academics we visited Plum Creek to do sextant readings for our celestial navigation class. We also did a transect study at Fourth Hole and Tunnel Rock for our science class.

On Saturday, we were treated to a cookout fundraiser for the Preston H. Albury High School seniors in Rock Sound, where we danced, ate, and played dominos with the locals! Later that night, we came back to campus and had a techno party at the old resort and ate s’mores around the campfire. After that, we got a chance to float the Current Cut with glow sticks so that we wouldn’t step on diadema.

Starting on Monday we planned and prepped our art gallery for Parents Weekend. Each student submitted some of their art so that the boy’s dorm common room was entirely filled. Once the art gallery was finished we all cleaned the campus for the parent’s arrival. Another big part of Parents Weekend prep was for the research symposium. Each research team prepared power points and speeches that thoroughly explained our studies.

Richie:  Hey guys, it must be cold in New York!  I just want to tell you that I am doing great down at The Island School.  My time is all most up with two weeks left.  How is everybody at New York Harbor?  I can’t wait to go back and tell all of you about my adventures.  Hey Mom and Dad, I can’t wait to see you guys; after two months home is probably really quiet without me. Tell everyone I said hi!

Sam:  Mom and Dad and the rest of the family--I love and miss you guys.  Thanks for dealing with all this to get me through here.  RCB kids--Can’t wait till summer, don’t think mine has been extended.  All my homies up at VA--Miss you guys a ton, wish I was coming back.  Keep it clean and enjoy the snow.  All other friends: Hill, FOCUS, and all other random friends--I probably miss you.  See you soon.

Kelly P.:  HEY everyone in Miami!!! Hi Mom, Dad, and Jill! How are you guys doing? I miss you all so much and I can’t wait to see you in just two weeks! Kristina, Lexy, Alex, Marcel, Jasmine, Kyle, Patrick, Chris, and Michael, you all have no idea how much I miss you guys and I’m excited to see you soon!
