Everyone all dressed up and excited for our families to arrive!!!

Week Thirteen

Thursday we had the chance to show our gratitude to our homestay families by hosting them for Thanksgiving dinner. We were all excited for the pleasant surprise of cakes, cookies, and pies for dessert!

On Saturday we got the amazing opportunity to go to bed at the unheard of 9:30pm in preparation for the next day’s grueling athletic tests of endurance. The next morning we all rose for a 5:30am circle, and the runners left shortly after. Swim trackers were along the route cheering them on. The super swim happened later that morning, and was just as exciting as the run.

Run track looks ready to take on anything after that half marathon!!

On Sunday night we all piled into the Elf (truck) to go to Maxey’s house at the marina for ice cream and brownies! And big news: the next day we got the huge treat of sleeping in until an 8:00am circle, an hour that has never seen sleeping Island School students before.

Swim track unites again!

On Tuesday we returned to run and swim tracks for yoga on the bridge by the marina (run track) and water polo (swim track).  Then we started finals--augh! And now we’re finally done with them all. Classes this semester have been hard, but they all paid off because we all definitely aced the finals (hopefully).

Sara and her buddy Jayneka with a Deep Creek second-grader

Wednesday we went to Deep Creek for a recycling presentation by the eighth grade community outreach group and their buddies. It was great to learn about the project they have been dedicated to this semester. Afterwards, we went outside to the annual Deep Creek Basketball Jamboree. The Island School crew fielded multiple teams that all played a level far beyond anything ever seen. We also had to opportunity to buy sodas, cookies, and cakes to benefit our longtime buddies’ schools (Deep Creek Primary and Middle Schools). It was sad to say bye to our buddies for the last time, but fun was still had by all.

We’re all sad that our semester is coming to a close--in less than a week we’ll be reunited with our friends and family! We will miss all of our new friends, but will definitely stay together as Island School Fall 2007 long after we leave Eleuthera.

“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.”
