Week Three

This week, being our third week, marked the start of our five week academic sprint. We are finally a community again. Kayak 3 and Kayak 4 returned from their trips on Saturday, which followed with a fun filled movie night including ice cream.  Sunday was another special day, the celebration of Kelly’s 17th birthday.  We celebrated with a vegan cake, which for most of us was a tasty new experience.

The semester is quickly picking up with community outreach having started on Wednesday and our first homestay will be on Saturday.  Everyone is really excited to become more of a part of the Bahamian culture.  Along with the academic week, community outreach, and homestay, students have also chosen whether to train for the half marathon or four mile superswim.  Research projects are in full swing, with the first draft of our collaborative papers due next week.  This upcoming Saturday’s activity is Coffeehouse and we’re all looking forward to kicking back and relaxing after our hectic week of academics.  Though the weather has been generally stormy, we’ve all been keeping our spirits up and plowing through our first week back at school since scuba and kayak rotations.  As the Bahamian motto goes “forward, upward, onward, together.”
