Week Six

We were woken up Wednesday morning by a huge rainstorm, which delayed the Scuba boat until the afternoon. The morning was spent in the dorms and, for some, dancing and jumping in the puddles around campus. North went out in the dive boat in the afternoon, but never ended up diving and a few decided to snorkel back to campus from the marina. Thursday was a normal day of classes, and most spent a busy study hours writing an Omeros paper for Humanities.  Friday was a beautiful day, and North was finally able to go diving and saw tons of amazing fish and a huge ray. South worked on Legacy projects back on campus.

Freetime jumping...

Saturday was another day of class, and we all spent it looking forward to the night’s activity, which was jumping off of high rock and doing a night snorkel. Everyone was both scared and excited, and ended up seeing an octopus and two enormous lobsters. The night ended with marshmallows around the bonfire.

Sunday was full of relaxing and working on art projects, and a lot of us took advantage of a beautiful day and went to the beach. Monday morning we broke off into East and West and did a psycho for morning exercise, and everyone had a lot of fun. That was followed by another day of classes and the day ended with everyone working on the upcoming History Assesment about the evolution of Junkanoo. On Tuesday, everyone woke up to run and swim tracks, and spent the morning doing some last minute cramming for the research oral assessment. Everyone did fine, except the Aquaponics team, who delayed the exam to harvest lettuce for dinner.

Aquaponics salad!

Wednesday morning was sleep-in day, which everyone appreciated, and was followed by Scuba diving for south and working on Junkanoo costumes for north. The afternoon was scheduled for Community Outreach, but it was soon discovered that their classes had been dismissed because of a water shortage at the primary school. The seventh grade group, however, got to teach their kids how to kayak, which as a lot of fun for everyone. The long day ended with a trip in the truck over to sunset beach to watch the sunset. It was a beautiful and welcome break to study hours. As we all get closer to our last week of academics, we are all getting ready for the upcoming 8 day kayak and down island trips.

Write letters and I promise I’ll write you back, because stupidly I didn’t bring any addresses so… you need to supply me with those.
